		of intellectual origin.
		Graduated from the
		Military Academy as
		lieutenant. Went over
		to the Russians in 1944
		and fought as a partisan
		in the rank of captain.
		Commanding officer of
		a battalion in 1945.
		Guards commander in 1947.
		Transferred to the
		Ministry of Defense in 1949.
		Member of the Hungarian
		Workers' Party.

Secretary of State:	Zoltan TILDY.	Before the war, president
		of the Independent
		Smallholders' Party, member
		of Parliament, In 1945
		Prime Minister. In 1946
		president of the People's
		Republic, resigned in
		1948. Rehabilitated in
		1956.

	Bela K0VACS.	Secretary general of the
		Independent Smallholders'
		Party in 1945, member of
		Parliament. From 1945 to
		1947, Minister of
		Agriculture. Arrested in 1947
		and taken to the Soviet
		Union. Brought "back to
		Hungary in June 1956 and
		released.
