At the beginning armored cars tried to stop the demonstration but later did not interfere. No major incidents took place. (Radio NOVI SAD.) 0700 According to the lead article of NEPAKARAT the mistakes of the RAKOSI regime will not be repeated in Hungary. It condemns the prevailing anarchy and the spreading of leaflets and rumors. 0715 The organizing of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party in county Heves is encountering great difficulties because the population is mistrustful. 0720 Agricultural experts are working on the new agricultural program of the government. 1005 Report of the Swiss representative of the International Red Cross on the work of the Hungarian relief action. 1015 According to MAI NAP peasants are free to sell their produce to state organs or to consumers. Agricultural cooperative shops will be the chief organs of state buying. The prices of agricultural products will be coordinated with prevailing market prices. The abolition of the delivery system and the free sale of agricultural products means that the income of the peasants within a year will grow by five billion forint. 1020 According to NEPAKARAT, shortage of miners also hinders coal production. Some workers' councils called upon their workers to report to work in the mines for a temporary period as due to power shortages the factories cannot produce to full capacity. Jozsef NEMET, Managing Director of the Hungarian State Railways, gave an interview to NEPAKARAT. He stated that coal supplies received from abroad will last another five days, the supply of coal extracted in Hungary is insignificant Due to coal shortage more than 20,000 loaded freight-cars cannot be moved. NEPAKARAT gives details on the quantity of duty free gift parcels which can be sent to Hungary from abroad. 1030 According to NEPSZABADSAG, on December 4 rumors spread in the country that an armed anti-Soviet revolution broke out in PECS. The paper denies this rumor. 1505 The UN Secretary General informed the leader of the Hungarian UN delegation that he intends to go to BUDAPEST on December l6. [page 2] 1700 Report on the December 4 evening session of UN in connection with UN observers to be sent to Hungary. 1715 The Secretariat of the BUDAPEST Central Workers' Council issued a communique in which it condemns that in several factories workers' councils engage in unwarranted interference into the affairs of the trade unions It states that it is not the tack of the workers' councils to decide the fate of trade union organs. 1940 The chief of the BUDAPEST police headquarters calls upon the population of the capital not to believe in the leaflets and rumors spread in BUDAPEST. 1945 According to a radio commentary, in certain parts of the country the delivery system is still continued illegally. 1950 The circulation of NEPAKARAT is 120,000. 2005 According to a communique from official quarters, the Hungarian government considers the proposed visit of Hammarskjold on December 16 inappropriate. 2010 BUDAPEST police headquarters announced that manifestations took place in the capital today. The crowd which gathered in front of the US and British embassies demonstrated against the Hungarian government. Manifestations also took place in BUDA. Armed Forces checked the manifestations and arrested several persons. 2225 According to the report of the Commissary for Public Supply, due to power shortages several factories have to close down temporarily end of December 5
