there was a similar noncident in ujpest, eastern
industrial suburb, of budapest after police and militiamen
partly dispersed a crowd by shooting in the air.

squads of more militiamen arrived in lorries and screened
off the area shrouded in the thick, white river mist.

they checked identity documents and made a number of arrests.

radio trucks loaded with hungarian militiamen and soviet
armoured troop carriers patrolled the streets from early today
on the alert for fresh trouble in the capital, which has been
under martial law since tuesday night.

the streets were busier today were more traffic and
pedestrians. tramcars were running on some routes which did not
operate during the strike. but observers said it was
too soon to say to what extent people were returning to work.

dr jagan khosla, indian minister to prague, drove to
budapest from Vienna on tuesday and is expected to have further
talks with premier kadar and members of his government,
as on his previous visit earlier this month.

mr k s menon, Indian ambassador in moscow is
expected to Join him here later this week.

unconfirmed reports circulating in diplomatic circles
