The Belgrade daily "Borba" of December 27 reported that "the well known Hungarian writer, Lajos Zilahy, who for a long time now has been living in the United States, is at present in Belgrade". "Borba" reminded its readers that "Zilahy's novels 'Ararat', 'Carried By The Waters', 'The Deathly Spring' and 'Two Prisoners' were translated into Serbo-Croatian and have met with great success among Yugoslav readers. We understood that Zilahy came to Belgrade to talk with certain Yugoslav film workers about the making of a?motion picture based on his novel 'Carried By The Waters' (original Hungarian title "Valamit visz a viz" - Ed.)." Lajos Zilahy emigrated to the United States in 1947. Although he had not participated in any Hungarian political movement, the Communist regime in Hungary pronounced him "a traitor to the people's democracy" and blacklisted his works. The novel "Carried By The Waters" deals with a fisherman tragedy on the Danube. End
