190/ X CURT -H-LAND OF SMILES -- ADDENDUM F-44

(WITH FRIDAY' S F-145)

Munich, 5 August 1961 (G. Urban) - Mr. Geza HEGEDUS is
a regime writer and journalist, but of a distinctly unorthodox
mould. In 1951 and 1954 he was awarded high Government decorations
and has been member of various educational advisory bodies close
to the Communist Youth Movement, Before the 1956 Revolution he
wrote a number of allegories similar to the "Land of Smiles" and
is today a man of medium importance, but increasingly vocal and
probably popular.
